cultural characteristics are pats of a group everyday life. they are the ideas and themes which the troup will teach to all members. these same characteristics can also link or divide a region. you pick up your cultural characteristics because everyone teaches them to you.
examples:language, religion, and ethnic heritage
language: arabic unies the arab world; spanish unites the hispanic world
brazil is the only south american nation which does not speak spanish it speaks portugal
canada is a bilingual nation. french and english are their officuial languages
switzerland has multiple languages but very little conflict between the groups
english is now considered the world language and is used for most business transactions around the world
ethnic heritage : in yuloslavia many ethic groups were made into one country
when strong leadership died out, the different groups fought a very bloody civil war and now they all have seperate countries
ithe hutus are dominant in one and they persecute the tutis and the tutis are dominant in the other and they persecute the hutus. it has led to almost constant war between the tribes
the united states and Switzerland have peacefully merged groups in their countries
korea and japan and china have primarily one ethnic group

Today in class we watch slumdog millionaire. The children have very different upbringings than the way most american children are brought up. India is covered in trash and there is trash in the river and everyone is bathing in the river. Everyone runs away alot because they have alot of mob violence. Hindu's would come in and kill most muslims and chase them down. Most of the children try to scam people and make as much money as possible. The police beat up most of the children. The police are very corrupt. If someone is being questioned they really get tortured. The classroom was very over populated and there was alot of mayhem. teachers hit children.

Lyrics
Oh, say! can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In fully glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution!
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust":
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

today in class we learn that immigration adds to our population. the united states has a low birth rate so the death rate should even it out. but the immigration makes the population grow rapidly. in china the population grows much more rapidly than america so they zpg (zero population growth) and are only allowed one child. illegal immigrants that are traveling can be caught and taken back but as soon as they get to america they are safe.many immigrants that come to america that we talked about today are cubans into florida. their push factor is the government is a communist dictatorship. we also talked about mexicans coming here.

9/29/14
today in human geo mr.schick was not here. so we had to watch a video. this video was about the population in the countries. reasons why the population could have gone down or higher in some countries. the video then took us to a web page this page told us about the births and deaths. as i am writing this blog there have been 143,525 deaths and 347,948 births today in the world.

Today in class we learned that when you measure the population you use the crude biving the rth rate and death rate. the crude birth rate is the number of births per 1000 of the population. the crude death rate is the number of deaths per 1000 of population. we learned that the rate of natural increase produced by subtracting death rate from the birth rate. the rate of natural birth also gives us the annual natural growth rate for a country or region. the net migration rate is the difference between the number of persons entering & leaving a country during a year. excess of persons entering the country is net immigration . excess of persons leaving the country is net emigration.

Today in Human Geo we discussed why other countries are learning english. We decided that because english was an international language and so many people in other countries will take jobs for less money than americans they have many reasons to learn english. Also we discussed how if it would really be worth it for companies to keep american workers because they still would cost alot. Then we started to talk about how when minum wage starts go up so will the countries income.
Tuesday, September 9, 2014
Did you know?
As i watched the video my reaction was surprised at how everything has been evolving so fast. My reaction also was concerned at the future. If india is having so many kids at such a rapid pace and they have already started to take americans jobs how much harder will it be for americans to get jobs. Also will america have to become over populated for the chances of them getting jobs to be higher. Or if they want to be the largest english speaking country will they become over populated and go into poverty. And what is going to be founded next? What will that be able to do will it help turn our generation into what as elbert hubbard said in message to garcia the lazy generation that does nothing. In my life technology plays a huge role. Technology is in everything. I am tuping this blog with technology. most of my notes for school are typed. I communicate with people through my phone. Finding something that technology is not involved in is going to be very hard.

Day 5
Today in human geo we went over more about the message to Garcia. Message to Garcia is about how during the spanish american war president mckinley sent this man rowan to go find garcia. Garcia was the head insurgent. But it only tok Rowan a day to find Garcia and Elbert Hubbard wads so impressed with Garcia because at the time in age it seemed like Rowan's generation was lazy and never actually tried and Rowan showed Hubbard that not everyone in the generation was like that. We also learned that america is supposed to be the best country but we have very few americans that vote and most the americans that vote are the older population that have been through world war 2 and almost lost the chance to vote.

What we did today
Today in Mr.Schicks class he got us all caught up on our blogs. To make sure that we all could be able to post on our blogs tonight. Then after that Mr.Schick went over his syllabus. We found out that he is going too give us pop quizzes and that he does not do extra credit. Also we found out about how our homework's are usually going to be theses blogs and that the blogs are due at 12 pm the night that we had class. We found out that Mr.Schick does not teach in his own room that he invades three different class rooms for every class, that if we need him we can go to his office in the tv room. We also found out that he does not really use the laptops for notes. We learned a lot about Mr.Schicks class today.
First day at John Carroll
My first day at John Carroll was very good. I managed to not get lost and figure out where everything is. I got to meet some of my teachers. I found out what they expect this year, what I need for the class and how that class is gong to be like. I have met many of my classmates and became friends with them. At John Carroll everyone is very friendly. I only managed to get locked out of my locker twice. I was expecting i would get locked out many more times honestly. My laptop was actually working for the first day of school which was a plus, since at freshman orientation it was not. So in all i am very pleased with how my first day of John Carroll went.
